“Lean forward moment” of the week - Creating engaging content 💍✨

This week I learned about how to create engaging content, and applying it is harder than I thought. Here’s a simple break down:

First, many creators get it wrong.

They think they should start with long form content and then repurpose it into a short form by creating reels for example. But they’d save time and energy flipping the process and starting with short form (tweets, for example).

This content creation system is especially useful for business owners.

Because when everything starts with a well-thought-out text post, you validate your ideas before you spend time writing long-form versions. AND you save time expanding on ideas you know resonate with your audience instead of writing blind (think reactions, likes, comments…).

Example, when writing a longer piece of content script from a tweet:

• Use the same hook or question you used in your tweet

• Hammer it home more by agitating the audience

• Give an example of the concept in action

• Finally, explain how it works

And if this next piece of content does well, do the same with even longer format (video or podcast). In the end, you don’t need a fancy content system to build your audience.

Simple beats complex every time.

🤝Quick Highlight of the community

I wanted to highlight this as I love hearing these types of updates from people in the community.

I learned that a few of my friends at Boy With A Ball have been doing great work this summer. First, they just came out of two weeks of a powerful literacy camp in at-risk neighborhoods in Norcross. Read Write to Lead.

This year, they had almost 200 volunteers who spent two weeks focused on helping over 50 students grow in reading and writing as well as building their confidence, and preparing to start the new school year.

They also have the Love Your City movement, which has been strong and growing in the Norcross area as we expanded to a second neighborhood.

They meet every Saturday at 11 AM to get to know each other and then go into hurting neighborhoods together to get to know families, learn what young people are facing, and create small groups that change entire neighborhoods.
