“Lean forward moment” of the week - Level up your referral game 👾
This week, I thought about sharing 3 referral strategies I am applying that could benefit your business as well.
After all, if your business is like mine, the best clients are often referred from other great clients, so why not focus on improving our referral game?
Tip #1 - Make faster wins ⏩
People love to get things solved / done faster, it’s part of how they value our offer. However, what do you do if a project takes a long time?
Give updates. Updates are wins.
Imagine your projects usually take a week to deliver, a customer can get one win at the end of the week OR win every day with daily progress updates (same amount of progress but 7 times the wins) referring becomes easier for our clients as they felt they won a ton by working with you.
Regular updates can be done with progress or not. No progress is better than leaving the customer hanging for a long time.
Tip #2 - Ask for them 🔊
Like any audience, clients only know what to do when you tell them - think Call to actions on your website or marketing material.
A client of mine offered 20% discounts to both clients and their friends for referring new business to their company. This generated so much new business, that is one of their main methods of customer acquisition now.
How do you determine how much to give away? Well, determine your CAC (cost to acquire customer) and use it to determine how much you can give to new and existing customers. If you can give your CAC or less away to both parties, then you are either saving on costumer acquisition -AWESOME- or keeping it the same. Be creative with your offers!
Tip #3 - Meet your clients 🤝
This idea came from a question at a networking event, they ask what were some methods that business owners were using to generate and give referrals.
One of the answers stood out to me, “I meet with one customer per week and ask about their life and business” this is so simple yet so effective.
By meeting with customers, not only can you see how else you could help them (and sell them if needed) but you can also generate introductions for other people in your network which shows your willingness to help, plus it gives you a better impression before them and the other person you are referring to…
And more good will = more referrals.
