Hey! Andres here,

Welcome to the networking desk! Glad you made it another week 🙂 As always, I share local networking events and share tips I found useful.

Here’s what we got this week:

  • Making a Magnum Opus

  • A few interesting events from the community

Alright, let’s do this.

“Lean forward moment” of the week - 🏛 Magnum Opus

Have you ever wanted to be a musician or a writer?

Like, when you were a kid… Did you imagine being remembered for something you created?

I know I did.

Lately (don’t ask me why, lol) I’ve been thinking about that feeling again. Maybe it’s because I write a lot. Stuff no one sees. Random thoughts, business growth ideas, personal notes, my notion and notebooks are filled with these.

But it made me wonder… what’s the use of all of this information?

I started doing some research and I learned that a book that I enjoyed “Simple Path to Wealth” was written by J. L. Collins who wanted to teach finances to his daughter, instead of trying to remember it all and teach as he went he wrote it down, and kept updating her for her to consume. This is what people called a “Magnum Opus”

She is now an adult and does follow the principles, and so another million people that have read that book.

I like to think of this newsletter as some kind of magnum opus, well, maybe more like a diary, lol. But I’m okay with that.

As I don’t go into much detail on strategy and my business in particular more than on a high level, so I think I will start my own Magnum Opus soon.

Today I want to share how you can do it too!

You may also say… well I don’t really have someone to write it to…

So? Write it to yourself, you never know, these words can become: a book, a starting point for a future business, a how-to guide for your employees, a source of unlimited content…

So many things, and the best part is that it evolves over time, some principles will remain the same but as you get older and more experienced it will evolve with you.

I think this is why I am such a big fan of typing on a computer, you can just come back and edit your past notes, they are flexible. Also, some of these apps like Notion have a “version history” feature where you can see past edits and see how much something changed.

Anyway, here are some tools I am considering and that you can use:

This one is recent for me. It’s similar to Notion, but you can split text like a slide, and present too, you can add individual notes to slides in case you want to read some bullet points while presenting. But can also just be use like notion to save notes and share.

I may start using this one a lot. It lets you create graphics to explain your point better, like this one on deciding to stay at a networking event:

It’s a great complementary tool for all the others on this list.

This is my go to for everything on my mind. Don’t believe me? I have an “Emotional Buttons” file where I have a list of things that make me happy, haha it was a mental exercise I learned once to keep in mind what is actually worth it in life, so I know what I should be aiming to do and how to spend my time.

  1. Beehiiv (or any other mailing service that will let you edit posts, like Substack)

This is only if you want to be public about it, however it can also be limited at times, you may have noticed that sometimes my emails get cut short, that’s because I can only fit so many characters plus the events list.

But hey, you can always complement with a blog or write the rest on one of the apps above and share it. Plus, sharing it might keep you motivated to post.

That’s how it is for me, I feel good researching events, and sharing some insight that might help someone out there…

Let me leave you with a question, what would you like to leave as your legacy “content” what would you write your “Magnum Opus” about? I'm currently diving deeper into non-profits and recurring revenue, so I think I might start there, as the information seems to be very scarce. What about you? Let me know!
