Sell results, not promisesšŸ¤ž| Atlanta Networking Events 10/7/2024

šŸ—“ļø Metro Atlanta Events & Business Tips

Another fantastic week of networking incoming!

Hey! Andres here,

Welcome to the networking desk! This I had the opportunity to speak with Wendy who’s a super connector. She actually teaches about networking and runs her own close networking association (PowerCore) here in Atlanta.

This week’s topic was inspired by our conversation, so I think you will definitely get some good value today šŸ„‡

Here’s what we got this week:

1. Showing proof & pain points

2. Atlanta-metro networking events for next week

3. My coffee shop restaurant recommendation for the week

Alright, let’s do this.

ā€œLean forward momentā€ of the week - Sell results, not promisesšŸ¤ž

I like it when things are simply explained to me. Just like Einstein said:

ā€œIf you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enoughā€

This is why when I speak to people, I move away from conversation like this:

Me: ā€œHey, what do you do?ā€

Them: ā€œI am a rooferā€

then silence…

This is NOT a way to generate referrals or connections. I rather ask ā€œwhat are you currently working on?ā€ or ā€œHave you had any fun projects lately?ā€ now those conversations are way more interesting.

Every week I notice that website design and networking have a ton in common, when I build websites and the customer insist on writing a promise like ā€œwe are the top roofersā€ and lack a way to connect to what their client desires (end goal) or the pain points they experience then there is no sale.

However, when we show proof with testimonials, and they describe a story that relates to a customer, now they engage and they contact. This is no different from when we are out there promoting our products or services. If instead of having what I said on the previous paragraph I say ā€œI am currently changing the roof on a mansion in Atlanta, half their roof came off during the storm (problem/pain) so I installed shingles that have extra weight which prevents them from falling offā€ people might relate and even try to find ways to make introductions that could lead to more business.

Here are the takeaways I will be implementing more from now on. Feel free to take them and start creating better connections:

  • bring 3 different stories about different services - you don't want to bore people with the same story. For example, if you are taking to Alice about that new project you just started, you don’t want to repeat it as soon as John joins the conversation so have multiple stories specially if you offer multiple services, they may relate better with different stories.

  • Learn to present your value, not your title - tell people how you improve other people’s life. THIS IS NOT BRAGGING. People want to hear success stories. You want to be remembered as the guy or girl who can solve X problem for a certain type of person, not the person who is a ____ [insert common title here]

Looking forward to hearing your stories.

Local shop of the week - Itala Pizza

Not an ad – just a cool spot you can visit

If you are like me and love pizza, you need to try this place. I’ll keep this simple, I do not like driving, and I drive over 45 min just to get pizza here and then come back home lol.

Give them a shot when you are in the Johns Creek area! Or maybe arrange your next lunch meeting there. Maps link: Itala Pizza
